Hi: I am back!
I will be teaching four stake institute classes starting in September.
Old Testament will be the topic, but this year will be a broad survey of my favorite chapters from the WHOLE Old Testament, rather than a deep study of Genesis.
And one week I will be reporting on our mission directing LDS Charities refugee aid in Europe.
As always, there is no charge for classes not listed on the BYU site. Registration is just to get your email address for class announcements, or handouts or cancellations.
I hope to see you on a Wednesday this fall!

My sister has been attending your class in the Salt Lake Ensign location. Your class on finding Christ in the Old Testament sounds very interesting. But the theme seems to go against the current writing of Joseph Spencer at the Maxwell Institute. On page 33 of his book on Isaiah, "The Vision of All," he states: "Stop looking for Jesus in Isaiah." He claims that there are few if any references to Christ in Isaiah. His statement is actually quite surprising. Given the topic of your class, I am curious to know what you think of Dr. Spencer's statement?
ReplyDeleteI would disagree with Spencer. Isaiah's NAME is Jesus is Jehovah. When he says "Jehovah is my salvation" the Hebrew can be read "Jehovah is Jesus." I will agree that Isaiah has a LOT to say that isn't about Jesus: a lot of his commentary is about Israel breaking her covenant and suggesting to Judah that she not follow her sister's bad example. But even Jesus read Isaiah and believed it was speaking of him: Isiah 61
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm new to your courses, and curious. Are you continuing these same course times and locations after Christmas?
ReplyDelete...when will your class resume at Sandy Granite South Stake in January 2019?
