And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him. Isaiah 8:17

Off Topic: Luke's Sermon on the Plain

S. Kent Brown did a great job talking about the differences between Matthew's Sermon on the Mount and Luke's Sermon on the Plain in the BYU commentary on the New Testament.  It was quoted HERE on Meridian Magazine.

East of Eden : the Temple in Genesis 2-4

Many students have been asking for handouts from our discussion this week about moving EASTWARD in the Adam and Eve story.  Those images are available on archived posts on this blog dated March 13th, 15th, and 18th of 2011 and April of 2012.

Temple Studies: Passion and Passover : Jesus and the Temple

The Academy for Temple Studies is pleased to announce its next conference. It is “Passion and Passover: Jesus and the Temple.” We are thrilled that four eminent biblical scholars will be speaking: James Charlesworth, Dan Bahat, Gary Rendsburg, and George Zervos. We will hold nearly identical sessions at both Brigham Young University (on March 30) and Utah State University (on March 31).

We’ll hear about devotion and worship in the Temple that Jesus knew, the Psalms as Temple hymns, and much more. To get the most out of your attendance at the conference, we recommend reading the book “Jesus and the Temple: Textual and Archaeological Explorations,” available at Amazon and elsewhere.

Please see the attachments and links for details about registering for the conference at BYU or USU. You will find the schedule and information about lunches, parking, and directions.

The USU session has a modest admission fee, and because BYU is a church-sponsored school, we will not be charging admission for the BYU session.
You can register on-line at this link:  https://secureinstantpayments.com?Event=1003

We invite you to celebrate Passion Week and Easter with us by learning more about Jesus and the Temple.

Sincerely,

The Academy for Temple Studies

NEW EVENING CLASS Starting February 18th

I will start teaching a NEW EVENING class of Finding Christ in the Old Testament starting next Wednesday, February 18th.

The class will meet in the Sugarhouse Stake Center located at 1100 East and 1700 South in Salt Lake.

We will meet from 6 to 7:30 PM.  The early hour is because there is another adult religion class that meets in the same building from 7:30 to 9.  It is an Old Testament class taught by James and Judith McConkie.

So you can attend BOTH classes!

A NURSERY will be provided, so if you have small children, you can still come.

Tell your spouses and friends who have daytime jobs.  See you there.

Canon Lists: Hebrew Bible, Septuagint, Catholic Bible, King James Bible

Many of you have asked for a list of the books in the canon of various groups reading the Bible.
These are easily available online : HERE is a great in depth wikipedia article on the various canon lists and how they developed.

For your convenience,  here is a one-sheet list for easy comparison.
